You’re off to great places!

Back in the day, in 1957 to be exact, Dr Seuss was challenged to write a story that first graders couldn’t put down. A simple task you would think, but the twist was, he could only use 225 words from a list of 348.. and he did it using only 236. Introducing ‘The Cat in the Hat!’, his second highest selling book.

Although known as a children’s book author, the words of Dr Seuss are very impactful and I love using them in my adult life.

Such simple words! I have gifted ‘Oh the places you’ll go’ numerous times. For graduates joining a program, to members of leadership development programs, the words in the book ring true for the recipients. More recently I read a verse from it at my god daughter’s naming day and her gift was the book. So simple and meaningful.

Some of my favourite phrases, and depending on the day and what is transpiring, they can mean so many different things!

Why fit in when you were born to stand out.

From there to here. And here to there. Funny things are everywhere.

Only you can control your future.

If you never did you should. These things are fun, and fun is good.

Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.

A person’s a person, no matter how small.

The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.

Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one.

You’ll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut.

Last but not least, the above is my favourite! To dream of true love and then to actually find it, is pretty damn magical. When reality is finally better than your dreams, you know you have found the one. This quote was used as part of our wedding ceremony and it will always have a special place in my heart.
